Fifty pages in, I learned so many details I either never knew or had forgotten. It’s like reading an excellent mystery, a “who done it.” Regarding history repeating itself, there are so many similarities (and differences too) to the current times we're living through, politically. Some of the facts detailed here are jaw-dropping. I highly recommend for everyone, not just the young readers targeted. Every school library needs several copies. It was a fast, fascinating, and accessible ride through the Watergate scandal, which was an even more complicated affair than I had realized. Pearson leads the reader through the events as they unfolded, and introduces you to the complex cast of characters one by one, so it never feels overwhelming. I learned so much--not just about Watergate, but also about the Constitution, the legal process, how our federal government works, etc. And it was a page-turner! I had to keep shooing my family away so I could finish. I'm planning to buy copies for my mom friends... this would be great to read as a family, alongside your teens. But I really enjoyed revisiting this story through adult eyes, eyes that appreciate the gravity of the scandal and the fallout. Pearson does an excellent job explaining a pretty complicated plot for young readers while emphasizing the reasons they should care about something that happened 40 years ago.
